I really loved the book within a book aspect of Magpie Murders and how, to solve the real life murder Susan had to solve the fictional one. Could one of the greatest murder mystery writers really have been murdered himself? And more importantly will the missing chapters shed some light on the real life killer? It is up to Susan to find out, but will she spot the clues right in front of her or will murder strike twice with no real conclusion? Along the way however, Susan begins building up a picture of Conway’s final days and realises that he wasn’t the suicidal type and that he had a lot of enemies. Resolving to find the final chapters so she can publish, Susan visits Conway’s various friends and family to see if they know where they are. Returning to work the next day, Susan learns that Conway has since commited suicide and that the final chapter is nowhere to be found. Susan flies through the novel but is then horrified when the last chapter is missing from her paper manuscript. The book sees Atticus investigating two recent murders in a small English village, both having taken place in the same household a week apart. Magpie Murders is the seventh in the Atticus Pünd series by author Alan Conway, and Susan is excited to dive right into the story. Seven for a mystery that needs to be solved.Īnthony Horowitz’s Magpie Murders follows Susan Ryeland, a book editor who stumbles upon a murder mystery within the very murder mystery she is tasked with editing.
